|The Provident Bank Bucks 5K Series completed another successful season at the Chalfont Challenge on June 4th. In its 21th season, the Series raised more than $133,000 for its local nonprofits. Since 2002, the Series has raised $1.37 million. More than 3600 racers and fun runners enjoyed the seven- race series in 2016.
The Series awards ceremony followed the Chalfont Challenge. The overall Champions were Laura Moreno and Bob Pultorak. This was the second championship for both. Laura initially won in 2007, while Bob won in 2014.
The Masters winners were Johnny King-Marino and Gert Freas. They repeated their wins from 2015. Johnny was also the overall winner in 2004. Both Johnny and Gert scored age-graded ratings of 80% in their races. A rating above 80% designates the runner as National Class and is based on a worldwide database. It means that they had times that were approximately 80% of the world record for runners of their age at the 5K distance.
The Series also awarded custom tiles to honor the top 1-2-3 runners in 17 age groups from under 9 to 80+. A complete list of the winners can be found at www.bucks5kseries.com.
The Series is a 501 c (3) non-profit organization that facilitates and coordinates the seven 5K road races. These races all benefit worthy causes, provide wholesome family activities, and improve the physical fitness of our communities. All of the races are held in the spring, and all are in Bucks County. The Series Board and the Race Directors are all volunteers, with no paid staff. All of the money earned stays locally.
Monies earned by the races and the Series benefited the CBF YMCA, Plumsteadville Fire Company, Bridge Fund of Doylestown Hospital’s Cancer Institute, Bucks County IU Education Foundation, CB Sertoma Club, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, Discover Doylestown, Mercer Museum, and Chalfont’s Trails and Parks Program.
Provident Bank will be the Bucks 5K Series Title Sponsor in 2016.
Bucks County Orthodontics will sponsor the Series Fun Runs in 2016.
